The Town of Figeac The Town of Figeac

Figeac was the birthplace in 1790 of the brilliant Orientalist Jean-Francois Champollion who deciphered the hieroglyphics on the Egyptian tablet found near in the Nile and now known as the Rosetta Stone.
You can visit the Champollion museum in Figeac and see documents and statuettes discovered by Figeac's most famous son.

You can also visit the Place des Ecritures to see a black granite reproduction of the Rosetta Stone.

Rocamadour Rocamadour

Rocamadour's setting is one of the most extraordinary in France, second only to the Mont St-Michel.

Until the Reformation the pilgrimage to Rocamadour was one of the most famous in Christendom. It was also a major stopping-place on the road to Santiago-de-Compostela. You can wonder down its picturesque main street or view it from the ramparts overlooking the valley.

Afterwards, you can go to the eagle rock to witness a unique demonstration with birds of prey.

The Caves at la Cave

The caves at Lacave are the most beautiful in the region, and may be said to be a synthesis of all the other caves in France.

A small train takes you underground to the starting point of your visit. The first of the two galleries, in total a mile long, contains stalagmites and stalactites; an underground river flows through the second, forming pools with beautiful reflections.
